Sketching Class starts with the basics. You will get an in depth understanding of the fundamentals of drawing. You will learn everything from line fundamentals all the way up to highlights and Shadow. Next you will learn how prospective works and how to incorporate it into your art. Once you have learnt perspective you are going to learn how to create texture and apply it to your drawings. Then you are going to learn how to draw from life. Observing life and drawing it is a very important skill when it comes to art. At this point you will be ready to start drawing the human face. Next you are going to learn how to draw human figures. In this course you’ll learn how to draw or your own beautiful, life like portraits. You will learn which materials make for the best portraits and the other tools you need as you begin drawing realistic, dynamic works of art. We will make specific recommendations about pencils and erasers you should use, ways to hold your pencil to create different tones, the correct way to blend, in order to keep your light and dark strokes distinct, ways to make texture in your drawings by using a simple eraser technique. We will give you tips on what makes a photo a good reference tool, and how to break it down, in order to analyse its shadows, lights and shapes more clearly. You will learn how to add drama to your portraits, and how to work with light and dark values, in order to make more successful drawings. You will also learn about halftones, highlights, reflected lights, form shadow, cast shadows and you will learn how to identify soft and sharp edges between them. In the drawing course we will also learn how to capture finishing details, which will help make your portrait stand out. We will also share extra tips for approaching your work with new prospective helping you see details that you might otherwise miss.

When you see beautiful portraits by others, they often seem like magic, and can leave you wondering how did they do that? We are not here to tell you that portrait drawing isn’t hard. It is. It is one of the hardest things you can attempt right up there with learning to play an instrument or speak a new language. But we are here to tell you that successful portraits are a product of a sound method. Good results come from good decisions. Good decisions come in part from knowing what to do, what to look for and in what sequence. That knowledge is what a good drawing method can provide, which is what we teach our students. You will learn a sequential method for drawing anything just not portraits. Method of measuring and sighting that will help you understand the proportions of your subject and help you identify and solve problems.
